![]() We’re talking about people who have a large quantity of drugs and a lot of money that they’re trying to distribute. A drug bust isn’t just a case where you get arrested it’s an indictment of your drug dealing. The DEA’s main job in drug busts is to arrest people and prosecute them. In the Richmond DEA case, a team of prosecutors, including the Richmond city attorney and the Richmond City Council, made the decision to pursue a large drug bust against a large cocaine shipment. When you’re dealing with the drug trade, the cost of drug arrests is substantial and the impact on public safety and tax revenues is tremendous. We’re in a tough economic environment with a high unemployment rate and high levels of public debt. I’m sure if we were talking about Richmond Public Schools, I would be as outraged as they are. This is a big deal! It’s a district that is on the edge of a massive drug problem that’s also a huge magnet for students from outside of Richmond. When the DEA raided the school, the district immediately cut the program by one half. They were also sending them to a school in the neighboring town of Henrico County. In fact, the Daily Journal reported that Richmond elementary school was sending students to the Richmonds public schools for free, even when they were learning about the dangers of illegal drugs. This week two Richmond officials were charged with “making and selling illicit controlled substances” after the Richmond Daily Journal found they were selling heroin and meth to Richmond’s public schools for a profit.Īnd yes, yes, yeah, Richmonds schools are paying that much. While the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is often called out for being a big fan of the death penalty, there are cases in which they’ve been caught selling to the highest bidder. The drug war has taken a serious toll on our community and we are fortunate to have the Richmond Daily Journal and the citizens of Richmond for a voice of support. We at the Richmond Daily Journal can only imagine how hard it is to be dealing with the government’s drug enforcement tactics.
